Who’s ready for some SCIENCE? I know I am! I’m Mrs. Reinkymov (Rine-ku-mov) and I have the pleasure of being the Science teacher for all of 5th grade at Sedgwick. We will use a combination of the California FOSS Science and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to do observations and investigations of our world.
We will study Chemistry in the Mixtures and Solutions unit, Biology in the Living Systems unit, and Earth Science in the Water Planet unit. I recommend that all students have a 3 subject notebook to help them organize their learning for each of the units.
Textbooks are provided by the school. For those interested, the ISBN for the textbook is 978-1592429974. Students can access an audiobook version by going to FOSSweb.com -> Student Login -> Username:Sedgwick17 Password: Science! -> View Module Detail -> Media Library -> Audio Book

Hello, my name is Ms. Goularte (Rm. 29) and I am going to be teaching your child’s Enrichment rotation. Enrichment is going to encompass many topics that enhance our learning and understanding of Science, Technology, and Social Studies. Some topics include Nutrition, Coding, Digital Citizenship, Geography (specifically the United States), and Science Camp Prep.
Our first unit of the year will be Nutrition. We will be using booklets from the Dairy Council of California (https://www.healthyeating.org/) to go over the five main food groups, serving sizes, and types of physical activity. Your child will have homework that requires them to record what they eat and what type of exercise they do over the course of three separate days. It will be stressed in class that each of our bodies are different and require different amounts of food and exercise. The main goal of this course is for children to understand more about how their bodies consume and use energy in order to keep us healthy!
5th Grade Standards addressed include:
Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, andstrategies to improve health and performance.
NGSS: Life Science Standard
